Bound for NYWe could have hopped a 'plane. I know. But this was a touch more exciting. It was the first crossing for all of us. I learned how to sail by racing the boat up and down the Cape of Storms with Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC). Peter Music was the skipper and I was the 'owner', relegated to the main sheets and kept in the cockpit for the first few races. I soon broke out and a year later (Decembr 1981) Jessica and I, Spider (Kitty) Davis, Oliver Nurrock and Miles Johnson set off for New York together. We didn't think of an auto-pilot and by the time we got to St Helena we were all utterly exhausted. Miles is at the wheel.
