NY boundWe could have hopped a 'plane. I know. But this was a touch more exciting. It was the first ocean crossing for all of us. I learned how to sail by racing the boat up and down the Cape of Storms with Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC). Peter Music was the skipper and I was the 'owner', relegated to the main sheets and kept in the cockpit, out of harms way for the first few races. I soon broke out and a year later (December 1981) Jessica and I, Spider (Kitty) Davis, Oliver Nurrock and Miles Johnson all set off for New York together. Nuts. We knew nothing of auto-pilots and a few weeks later, when we arrived in St Helena we were all well trashed. Miles is at the wheel. |
